04. Cool Enough

In a song-writing exercise called “The Game,” you get two phrases to choose from in which to write a song. Everyone then gets together and performs their song. “Cool Enough” came from that assignment along with one of my Mom’s favorite sayings. When asked, “What’s that?”. She responds, “What do you want it to be?”.

Said the ice cream to the ice,
Are you cool enough, are you cool enough?
Said the full moon to the night,
Are you cool enough, are you cool enough?

Pot roast in the oven
at three hundred fifty degrees
What is the meaning of this song
If we follow along, maybe we’ll see

Said the sun to the fire,
Are you cool enough, are you cool enough?
Said the asphalt to the tires
Are you cool enough, are you cool enough?

Death Valley gets so dang hot
You don’t see what you think you see
What is the meaning of this song?
If you know, come up here and whisper it to me

Bridge
It’s cool to be early
Uncool to be late
Rather be young than be cool
Being cool is nobody’s fate

As cool as the underside of a pillow
As cool as when you know your stuff
So cool that it’s scary
Everybody knows that it’s cool when you’re cool enough

Everybody knows that it’s cool when you’re cool enough

Said the North Pole to the South
Are you cool enough, are you cool enough?
Said the loud mouth to the mouth
Are you cool enough, are you cool enough?

Hot air blowing from a politician
that everyone can see
What is the meaning of this song?
I don’t know, what do you want it to be

Bridge
It’s cool to be early
Uncool to be late
Rather be young than be cool
Being cool is nobody’s fate

As cool as the underside of a pillow
As cool as when you know your stuff
So cool that it’s scary
Everybody knows that it’s cool when you’re cool enough

Are you cool enough?
Are you cool enough?
